Traditionally Strong – A Modern Port with a Rich History
After World War II, in 1945, the “Port Transport Agency” was founded, which took over the management of port activities in the Port of Split. The agency’s goal was to organize and optimize the operation of port terminals and transport to support the recovery and development of the economy in the post-war period.
The foundation of the present-day company, operating under the name “Luka Split” d.d., was laid through the establishment of “Public and Free Customs Warehouses”, which enabled more efficient cargo management, reduced administrative barriers, and encouraged the growth of foreign trade activities. This step was crucial for strengthening and organizing the commercial sector, as well as for the renewal of the Port of Split as a strategic commercial port.
Throughout its history, the company has undergone various name and organizational changes, including: “Luka i skladišta” Split, “Luka-Split”, OOUR ” Lučki prekrcaj i skladišta“, “Luka” Split p.o., and others. However, the core business has remained focused on port services.
The company became a joint-stock company under the name “Luka” d.d. on May 21, 2002, and since the end of 2024, it has been operating under the name “Luka Split” d.d., reflecting the continuity in its operations and the optimization of its business under a unified name.
